4th Annual Liffey Santa SUP Takes Dublin by Paddleboard

It’s not your usual Santa Claus parade—it’s the fourth annual Liffey Santa SUP, a heartwarming event that adds a dash of aquatic adventure to the holiday season.

This Saturday, December 16th, the Liffey River will transform into a buoyant runway for Santas on paddleboards. Picture this: a flotilla of Santas gracefully navigating the waters, accompanied by Grinches, elves, and snowmen, creating a whimsical spectacle against the backdrop of Dublin’s cityscape. It’s a sight that piques curiosity and gives the holiday celebrations a magical touch.

But this event is not just about spreading Christmas cheer—it’s also about giving back. In its fourth consecutive year, the Liffey Santa SUP serves as a charitable endeavour, raising funds and awareness for worthy causes. Last year’s event managed to raise over €1,000, contributing to ongoing campaigns for Mental Health Ireland and the RNLI. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of celebration, there’s an opportunity to make a positive impact on important issues.

Participation in this festive flotilla is exclusive to those with stand-up paddleboard experience, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved. The journey kicks off at the Dublin University Boating Club and winds its way down the Liffey, culminating near the 3Arena. In the spirit of Irish weather, organizers have a contingency plan. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, fear not—the journey will be rescheduled to December 17th, ensuring that the festive fun goes on, come rain or shine.
