The game started with the offering of 45.6 billion South Korean won, approximately €30 million. The invitation was granted to all those who were going through miserable circumstances in their lives and were ready to win the game for ‘money’.

The Squid Game director and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed the release of Squid Game 2 on December 26. The third season would follow up till 2025. From its first season with nine episodes, it still remains one of the top-watched Netflix shows to date.

It became one of the first non-English language drama series on Netflix to have received several nominations in prominent categories at the Emmy Awards. It was able to secure 14 nominations, out of which 6 of them won awards, including “Best Drama” and the first Best Korean Actor award for Lee Jung-jae.

Director of Squid Game 2 says…

The director said that the main character would be back to join the game, chiefly to take revenge. He also revealed that it wouldn’t be easy for him to succeed as the frontman’s opponent is one of the strongest the audience would ever see.

Dong-hyuk also re-assured that the season three finale would be the actual finishing to the entire series, in which two worlds would be seen clashing fiercely. He added that he hoped to bring “yet another thrill ride” following the success of the groundbreaking dystopian thriller Netflix series.

He continued to explain, “On the first day we began shooting Squid Game 2, I remember thinking ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game’. It almost felt surreal”.

The director is also hopeful as well as excited to see the seed of Squid Game grow as he has planned, just like the previous season. And at the conclusion of the story, he would love to see the fruit it would grow.

Squid Game 2 would start with the story of the winner, player 456, who looks determined to find the real people behind the game setup. He wanted to put an end to this savage cycle so that the game people stop taking advantage of the helpless ones. The protagonist would start looking at the most obvious places, such as the person in a black suit at the subway station who offers people to play games.

The description of the story in Squid Game 2 also elucidates that the efforts of the protagonist would start to yield zero results. Hence, he would try to enter the business, to end the game, which would prove deadlier than before.

The February teaser shows a caller telling the protagonist that he is going to regret the choice he just made. In return, the hero answers that he’s coming to find them, “no matter what it takes”.

After its massive success, the show was transformed into a real-life game show. The show was named “Squid Game: The Challenge”. The contestants were seen wearing the same outfits as shown in the series. Although the reenactment of the childhood games wasn’t as lethal as Squid Game in the OTT series, the corresponding stakes were also low.

The winner of the real game show, Mai Whelan, was able to receive $4.56 million as prize money.
