After Taylor Swift Won Seven VMA Awards, Swift, Beyonce Tied

Taylor Swift won seven VMA (Video Music Awards by MTV) awards on Wednesday, 11 September, bringing a total of her career awards to 30. After this, a tie between Beyonce and Swift is witnessed.

Taylor Swift won five awards for her song “Fortnight”. The song won an award for the Video of the Year as well. It is the third time in a row that Taylor Swift has won big at the same award show and won for the fifth time in the same category.

Previously, she won VMA for “Bad Blood” (2015), “You Need to Calm Down” (2019) and many others. Overall, she has become the first artist to win for three consecutive years in the same category at VMA awards.

The video for the song “Fortnight” is directed by Taylor Swift herself. Swift won an award in this category four out of five times. The rest of the three were for “The Man”, “Anti-Hero” and “All Too Well: The Short Film”.

Swift remarked about her video-making process, “This video seems really sad when you watch it, but it was really the most fun video to make. At the end of every take, I would always hear someone just cheering, like, ‘Woo!’ from across the studio, and that one person was my boyfriend, Travis”.

She thanked Travis for all the support throughout her videos and song-making days as she said that it turns out he adds magic to everything. It becomes “happiness and fun” for her, she said.

Another category for which Swift bagged an award is the “Artist of the Year” for the second time in a row. Again, for this category as well, Swift is the first artist to win big, twice! The category was introduced in 2017.

“Best Collaboration” award with a Moon Person statue was also earned by the song “Fortnight”. “Best Pop” award was also in the name of Taylor Swift for the third time. It became a tie with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake who have won the most awards in this category.

It became interesting when “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter won the award for “Song of the Year”. However “Fortnight” was able to beat a follow-up hit by Carpenter, named “Please Please Please”.

Katy Perry, Eminem and Megan Thee Stallion won two awards each. The total number of awards for Eminem’s career now become 15, which is the highest total any male singer has been able to win in the show’s history. Also, Eminenm had a tie with Peter Gabriel with 13 awards each this year.

According to Guinness World Records, Beyonce has a total of 30 awards for the same show. Two of them were with her husband, and the other two were with her former group, “Destiny’s Child.” Beyonce did not win any award on Wednesday where Taylor Swift won seven VMA awards. The Country Music Association also shut out the artist earlier this week.

With Swift’s victory for Video of the Year, the evening came to a conclusion. She gave a shout-out to all the collaborators for the video, and to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

At the conclusion of her speech, she urged everyone to cast a vote in the approaching presidential elections. Following Donald Trump’s presidential debate on Tuesday, she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

Although Taylor Swift won seven VMA, another speculation is now on the rise- whether Swift would continue to speak about politics. She supported Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Waltz and suggested casting a vote for both of them, just like her. She explained that she had researched their policy aims and how they are better choices for bringing calm to the country.
