According to a press statement from Aircoach, the schedule for the 706/706X, which will terminate at Galway Coach Station, will cover all intermediate stops between Galway and Dublin Airport.
Aircoach on Dublin to Galway Route Operation Closure
The route, launched with much fanfare in July 2021, apparently failed to meet profitability targets. However, the company maintains a commitment to the West of Ireland.
The statement went on to say that Aircoach fully expects to return to the West of Ireland and is committed to providing connection for transport throughout the entire island.
Aircoach Managing Director Kim Swan elaborated, expressing regret for the route’s closure but highlighting the company’s ongoing dedication to the region. To help with this, we are looking for customer-focused and financially feasible opportunities, according to Swan.
This news comes after Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus service, discontinued its Galway-Dublin route in July 2021. Aircoach’s 706/706X service, with its ten daily departures each way, was seen as a welcome replacement.
With Aircoach’s departure, Citylink Route 763 becomes the sole multi-stop service catering to Galway, Ballinasloe, Athlone, Dublin, and Dublin Airport.
Aircoach has assured those with existing bookings after April 8th that they will be contacted to discuss options. The company also directed passengers to competitors Citylink and GoBus for alternative travel arrangements.
