Biden Announces Decision to ‘Pass the Torch’ to a New Generation
President Joe Biden declared his withdrawal from the presidential contest on Wednesday in a historic Oval Office speech, highlighting the significance of transferring leadership to a younger generation. “I have concluded that passing the torch to a new generation is the wisest course of action. That’s the best way to unite our nation,” Biden stated, following increased pressure from fellow Democrats.

Biden Endorses Harris as Democratic Nominee, Emphasises Passing the Torch to a New Generation
Biden backed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president in an attempt to unite his party. He said, “I have to bring my party together in this crucial endeavour.” I love my office less than I love my nation.
It has been a privilege to serve as your president, Biden remarked, reflecting on his experience in government. However, I believe that it is more crucial than any title in the defence of democracy, which is at risk.”
Praising Harris, he described her as “tough” and “capable,” highlighting her leadership qualities. She has been an amazing partner and leader for our country. You, the people of America, now have the decision.”
In the coming months, Biden will focus on his presidential duties, including lowering family costs, growing the economy, defending freedoms, combating hate and extremism, and protecting children from gun violence. Internationally, he aims to continue rallying nations against Russian aggression in Ukraine, strengthening NATO, and bringing peace to the Middle East, including ending the war in Gaza.
Biden concluded, “I’m going to keep working to end the war in Gaza, bring home all the hostages, and bring peace and security to the Middle East.”
