Platt arrived at Dublin Airport in the evening, escorted by gardaí, and is now held at a north Dublin station. The extradition follows a London court’s ruling in June, which rejected Platt’s appeal against his return to Ireland.
He is set to appear before Dublin District Court today. If found guilty of deception and false evidence, Platt could face up to 10 years in prison.
Chef Jason Platt’s Injury Claim Falls Apart as Video Evidence Reveals Fake Disability
In 2015, video evidence showed Platt engaging in activities he claimed to be unable to perform, such as walking without crutches and driving a car. His injury claim was dismissed in 2016 after the judge deemed his testimony dishonest and unreliable.
The hotel’s insurers, burdened with a €500,000 defence bill, complained to the GNECB. Although Platt was invited to voluntarily present himself in 2020, he declined, leading to an arrest warrant in 2021.
Platt’s 2009 accident occurred in Kinsale, Co Cork. He fell seven metres from a window while attempting to flick a cigarette butt outside. Despite severe injuries, evidence revealed inconsistencies in his claims, including footage of him walking and driving, contradicting his portrayal of ongoing severe disability.
