Completing in April 2023, the development provides a variety of housing options, demonstrating a dedication to fulfilling the varied needs of the community. The strategic location of Cornamona Court, with proximity to schools, churches, shops, libraries, and community buildings, enhances the accessibility and convenience for its residents.

Originally conceived as a single-story older person’s complex, Cornamona Court underwent a transformation in response to housing needs in the area. Along with 31 homes for the elderly, the development now offers general housing. All of the homes are built with age-friendly features and universal design to encourage independent living.

At the National Age Friendly Awards, Cornamona Court won an Age-Friendly Housing Award in appreciation of its age-friendly architecture. The chair of the Dublin City Council Housing SPC, Cllr. Alison Gilliland expressed her happiness for the people and families who are now residing in Cornamona Court, calling it a proud day for the council and all those involved in the project.

The residential blocks, comprising three buildings with a simple rectangular geometry, stand as a testament to thoughtful design. A spectacular facade is created by two four- to five-story blocks facing Kylemore Road, with a terrace of two-story homes overlooking a shared courtyard in the back.

Practicality is given priority in its development together with aesthetic appeal. Private front and backyard gardens on the duplexes and houses encourage a sense of personal privacy inside the neighbourhood. A resident’s community room, accessible from both the street and a private courtyard, adds to the sense of community, providing a space for residents to connect.

Assistant Chief Executive Frank d’Arcy of DCC expressed his happiness at seeing the new community come to life. “This new Dublin City Council housing development is a proud day for everyone involved in creating and delivering it,” he said, emphasizing the beneficial effects that these residences have on the lives of their new residents.

As the residents of Cornamona Court look forward to their first Christmas in their new homes, the development stands as a shining example of Dublin City Council‘s commitment to creating inclusive, sustainable, and flourishing communities. The unveiling of 61 “Forever Homes” marks not only a housing milestone but also the beginning of a new chapter for the individuals and families who now call Cornamona Court their home.
