DSPCA Calls for Support for the Cat on ‘Her Last Journey’ after Cancer Ate Off Her Ears
Charity organisation Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) is calling on the public to adopt an elderly cat, Bainne, whose ears were partly amputated due to cancer.
This lovely eight-year old stray, now known as Bainne, was found in the street and handed over to the DSPCA earlier this month by a passer-by who noticed her poor health.
Bainne has had quite a rough time throughout her journey. Living on streets, she had to survive on her own, she looked malnourished and frail, and had growths on the back of her ears that were clearly dormant symptoms of abuse and torture.
During the examination at the DSPCA shelter, the vet pointed out that Bainne indeed had cancer that required the removal of a part of both her ears. However, even after surgery, Bainne’s condition remains grim as the DSPCA predicts that she has less than one year to live.

“Bainne was a very good patient and has recovered well from her surgery,” said a DSPCA spokesperson. “Unfortunately, for this sweet eight-year-old lady, the overall prognosis is not good.” Now, the DSPCA is seeking a compassionate person or family who can offer Bainne a peaceful, loving environment where she can spend her final days in comfort and security.
“We’re sure she’s had a difficult and sad journey in life to have ended up living alone scavenging for food and shelter,” the DSPCA added. “We want to make sure that her final journey is one full of love, comfort, and in a place where she can finally feel safe and rest easily.”

“Bainne was a very good patient and has recovered well from her surgery,” added the spokesperson for DSPCA. “Sadly, for this sweet eight-year-old lady, there is really no hope.” Now, the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) is looking for a good Samaritan or a kind household for Bainne to live out her remaining days in the company of someone who will show her kindness and love.
“It must have been a tough and sad life for her to end up living alone searching for food and a place to lay,” the DSPCA said. “Ideally, we would like to make sure that her last days are spent in a comfortable and safe environment, surrounded by as much love and care as she missed out on throughout her life.”
Those who may want to adopt Bainne kindly and provide it with a permanent home should visit the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) shelter home which is open from 12 in the afternoon to 4 in the afternoon, Tuesday to Sunday. Moreover, you can also reach out to the cat rehoming team through email at [email protected] to gain more knowledge about Bainne’s requirements and its adoption program.
The charity aims to give her a new home where she will receive the love and attention she has never received over the past years. With Bainne’s health deteriorating further, the DSPCA insists that the best hope for her is to be adopted as soon as possible. This is about making sure that the final chapter of Bainne is love, not loneliness and not suffering.
“This is Bainne’s final journey and we want it to be filled with love.” A sentiment endorsed by the DSPCA. The organisation expects that a loving household will come forward and offer the kindness and care that Bainne needs in her last moments.
