January 6th marks a special day in Dublin, especially for the women of the North Inner City. Women’s Christmas, or Nollaig na mBan, is a day of live music, art, poetry, exhibitions, and celebration of the amazing women in the communities of North Strand, Ballybough, and Clonliffe. In addition to entertainment, Women’s Christmas offers powerful women an opportunity to socialise with like-minded people, have fun in a lively setting, and give back to the community.

Here’s a list of events in Dublin at Women’s Christmas
1. Festival Launch
The festivities kick off with the Festival Launch at Charleville Mall Library, North Strand Rd, Dublin 1, from 2 pm to 3 pm. Aoife Barry will be shining the spotlight on Dr. Katriona O’Sullivan as she discusses her recently released debut novel, “Poor.” The novel delves into Dr. O’ Sullivan’s struggles growing up in Dublin’s Inner city, offering a unique perspective on life in the community.
2. Award Ceremony
Following the launch, an award ceremony will take place at Charleville Mall Library from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Selected as the “most important part of the festival,” twelve remarkable women from the community will get recognition. In honour of their services to the community, each heroine will receive a certificate scroll that was inspired by the “Hearts of Ireland” painting by local artist Adelle Hickey as well as a bouquet of flowers from Delli’s Flowers.
3. Concert
The musical journey starts at St Columba’s Church, North Strand Rd, Waterloo Avenue, from 5 pm to 8 pm. A ticketed concert featuring the mesmerising Mary Coughlan and band, along with the talented Maria Doyle Kennedy and the Kieran Kennedy Band, promises an evening full of soulful performances. Mary’s unparalleled jazz and blues vocals, combined with Maria’s eclectic musical career, ensure to set a night of unforgettable melodies.
4. Late Night Jazz
Jazz music is played at Annesley House Pub, 70 N Strand Rd, North Strand, beginning at 9 p.m. as the sun sets. Heffernan and Friends are internationally acclaimed jazz/blues singers. With over 30 years of experience, Honor Heffernan has released multiple solo albums, enchanting audiences with her soulful voice and magnetic presence.
5. Adele Tribute Band, Karaoke, and Photo Exhibition
The night unfolds with a number of entertainment options. Clonliffe House Pub hosts an Adele Tribute band at 9.30 pm, offering a musical tribute to the iconic singer. Simultaneously, Cusack’s Pub invites everyone for a karaoke night with Sharon O’Hanlon, providing a chance for attendees to showcase their vocal talents. Meanwhile, Da Mimmo Restaurant, 43 Ballybough Rd, Dublin 3, hosts a photo exhibition by Paula T Nolan titled “The Birds,” exploring the abundant nature in the North Inner City.
