High alert East Cork – The East Cork area, still reeling from the aftermath of Storm Babet, is once again grappling with flooding as a status yellow rainfall warning blankets the region. Reports confirm flooding on the R579 between Healy’s Bridge and Cloghroe near Muskerry Golf Club, with the Carrigrohane Straight Road and N40 South Ring Road experiencing rising waters.
The Dungourney to Midleton road remains closed, while flooding persists in Glanmire between Copper Valley and Marwood and surface water troubles the route between Whitegate and Saleen. Irish Rail is currently facing delays and alterations due to weather-related damage between Mallow and Charleville.
Cork County Council, anticipating higher tides, is on high alert, monitoring weather warnings. While property flooding risk remains low, road flooding is prevalent. Simon Coveney, Minister for Enterprise, has praised community spirit and assured substantial government support, with potential business aid reaching €70,000.
As the region navigates the ongoing rainfall, there are warnings of heavy rain, thunder, and localized flooding across multiple counties, urging caution on the roads. Cork’s resilience is now tested as it faces the challenges of nature’s relentless force.
