Iraq Disapproves Of The Rash Action Of Targeting Its Bases

Iraq disapproves

Iraq disapproves of the rash action of targeting its bases, this Tuesday. Iraq clearly stated that an attack on its diplomatic missions as well as US-led coalition outposts is not accepted.

After an attack on a military base in Iraq, at least five US personnel were wounded on Monday. It could lead to a likely new wave of counter-attacks in the Middle East from Iran and its allies, Iraq declared.

Iraq captured a truck in its territory that had a rocket launcher. It happened a day after the US personnel incident as an escalation of violence in the Middle East conflict started taking shape.

Iraq disapproves of the attacks, adding to the fact that the killing of Iran’s senior members last week has already triggered quite a mess in the region. Iraq said that “terrorist groups” and their senior members Hamas and Hezbollah have initiated a subtle war that could transform into a bigger one later.

An Iraqi military statement came over the surface regarding targeting its bases, which said, “We reject all reckless actions and practices targeting Iraqi bases, diplomatic missions and the whereabouts of the international coalition’s advisors, and everything that would raise tension in the region”.

The Iraqi military confirmed the news of an attack with two rockets on Monday at their Ain al-Asad air base. Although they did not mention anyone getting injured by US personnel, the attack on the western Iraq town of Haditha was validated.

The statement also clarified that a small truck was seized that had a rocket launcher tied to its back. Unfired rockets, which were eight altogether, were captured as well.

Iraq disapproves of attacks but does not give detail

It seemed that Iraqi military statements were devoid of much detail. However, the statement elucidated that the security forces, with their intelligence and security works, are already aligning their actions to obtain information about the perpetrators of this attack. The Iraqi military is sure of their next steps for bringing justice for the reckless actions.

Iraq has been a rare ally of both America and Iran. On one hand, it hosts 2500 US troops; on the other hand, it supports links to Iran’s security forces. Thus, it has been the battleground for tit-for-tat attacks several times in history.

Since the escalation in violence after the Israel-Hamas war that erupted in October, Iraq has been in the support of Palestinian victims. The country welcomed the decision of the Security Council in January 2024 for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The state was in support of the withdrawal of Zionist actions that had caused severe displacement of Palestinian citizens from their homes. Although Iraq gave its land to the US-led troops, it continued to speak in support of Palestine.

After this statement from Iraq’s foreign ministry, United States President Joe Biden proclaimed in late May that he proposed a ceasefire for Israel. Iraq was content that the people of Palestine would be able to return to their homes and more bloodshed would be avoided that took the lives of small newborn kids and old age people simultaneously.

Even before the confusion of whose side to take or whose not, Iraq was clear on its stance on the Israel-Palestine war, which had a direct connection to America as well as Iran. The two rockets that were fired at Iraqi bases caused damage to the base property as well as US personnel’s lives.

A post-attack damage assessment is still being conducted, on which details about personnel are yet to be confirmed, a US defence spokesperson said. Nevertheless, these attacks were frequently seen before the war between Israel and Hamas Palestinian militants, though they were largely stopped a long time ago.
