The tender, estimated to cost around €600,000 for one year, is open to bids from Israeli defence companies, a move that comes amid ongoing political tensions between Ireland and Israel.

Irish Defense Minister’s Concerns Contrast with Support for Israeli UAV Bids

Irish Defense Minister Micheal Martin had previously expressed reservations about purchasing military equipment from Israel, citing the country’s actions in Gaza.

However, the tender’s announcement reflects Ireland’s continued reliance on Israeli technology. The Irish Army already employs various Israeli systems, including UAVs and ground radar.

Military sources suggest Israeli firms, known for their advanced UAV technology, are strong contenders for the contract. Over the past decade, Ireland has spent over €8.5 million on Israeli defence products, with significant amounts directed towards UAV maintenance.

Despite political criticism and Ireland’s recognition of a Palestinian state, which has strained relations with Israel, the Defense Ministry confirmed that there are no restrictions on Israeli companies bidding.
