Ireland’s Social Welfare Changes 2024 Ready to take effect

As we eagerly await the arrival of the New Year, the Irish government is gearing up to implement a comprehensive package of Ireland’s Social Welfare changes that will impact citizens across the country. From increases in weekly payments to energy credits and extended benefits, here’s a breakdown of what you can expect starting January 2024.

What to expect from Ireland’s Social Welfare changes 2024?

1. Weekly Payments Increase

All weekly social assistance payments would increase by a maximum of €12; qualified adults and those receiving lower rates of payment will get raises commensurate with their qualifications. Notably, those aged 25 and under receiving a reduced rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance will now benefit from the full €12 increase. Additionally, the weekly rate for qualified children will see a boost of €4, with amounts increasing to €46 for children under 12 and €54 for children aged 12 and over.

2. Bonus Payment

Beginning the week of January 29, all weekly qualifying receivers of social welfare are in for a special treat–a one-time double payment to start the year off well.

3. Energy Credits

In the New Year, households will get two more energy credits at €150 apiece. The first credit will be issued in January, followed by a second one in March, providing some relief to households grappling with energy costs.

4. Child Benefit Extension

Beginning in September 2024, Child Benefit will be expanded to include children up to the age of 18 who are enrolled full-time in school, providing families with older kids with extra financial assistance.

5. Working Family Payment

Beginning in January 2024, the Working Family Payment income limitations will rise by €54 for all family sizes. In a welcome move, those receiving the Working Family Payment in November 2023 will also receive a one-time payment of €400.

6. Carer’s Allowance

Starting from June 2024, the Carer’s Allowance income disregard will witness an increase to €450 for a single person and €900 for a couple, acknowledging the vital role played by caregivers in our society.

7. Domiciliary Care Allowance

Domiciliary Care Allowance, designed to support families caring for children with severe disabilities, will see a monthly increase of €10, reaching €340 from January 2024.
