The American drama series begins with an unveiling of each character right from the first episode, but the episode’s ending is where the actual thriller begins. Amelia, played by Ewe Hewson, is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket.
However, a shocking death on the island leads to making every character a suspect in all of the next episodes one by one.
With the inevitable gripping performances from Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber, the plot of the story keeps turning as the suspects of a murder that took place on an island, soon to be a venue for a wedding, was mind-boggling.
With each episode, the characters keep developing and so do the twists. The ideal balance between family storytelling and the thrill of the murder story keeps the storyline realistic. A cherry on top is The Perfect Couple Netflix opening with Nicole Kidman as if they are made for each other.
Audience reception and criticism
The audience found it “amusing” to watch. The glory of the classiness that the story unfolds with the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy family living along the US coastline.
After its first release on September 5, the very first reviews started coming in. They were mixed.
One of the reviews said it is “ludicrously good” while the other called it “daft” and “derivative”. One of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes said “The Perfect Coupe doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’ll certainly scratch an itch for whodunnit lovers”.
Another top critic on Rotten Tomatoes said that the season surprised her but it was “wonderfully, preposterously hilarious”.
One of the movie critics in Daily Mail noted that it is impossible to miss Nicole Kidman’s performance in the entirety of “this classy detective drama set around a posh wedding”.
A heavy criticism came from Nick Hilton from The Independent when he said that it was a mere piece of “biting satire”. According to him, the show was nothing but a profound display of properties on the beach, designer clothes and a small army of servants going here and there with the wealthy family.
However, another comment is totally opposite, saying that it was perfect and was paced delightfully on the spot.
So, it leaves with thinking, is The Perfect Couple a flop or a hit?
Nicole Kidman’s performance
All hail the queen, Nicole Kidman, and with her in the series, how could one think The Perfect Couple is a flop? NO WAY!!
Hundreds of reviews have poured in for her remarkable performance in the season which was “curiously addictive”. Her grace and sexuality do not overshadow her acting skills in The Perfect Couple.
In the final episode, when she reveals herself “I was an escort!”, her family goes speechless. From once being a sex worker and then getting married to one of the wealthiest men who fell for her was an out-and-out murder mystery role that Nicole Kidman has played quite sharply in this series.
There remains no doubt that Oscar and Emmy award winner Nicole Kidman was here to win hearts in her television series The Perfect Couple Netflix, which was one of the many similar roles of murder women that she has played in the past years.
