The military spokesperson, Captain David Avraham, also declared that Hezbollah leader Nasrallah had been “eliminated” in the Beirut airstrikes yesterday.
Their spokesperson refused to comment on having attacked with US-made Mark 84, the heavy bombs used in attacks over Nasrallah.
They only revealed details about how and where the strikes were carried out, especially on the senior chain of command in their headquarters. They are now hoping that this would change Hezbollah’s future course of action.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) proclaimed that Hassan Nasrallah was dead after they struck “central headquarters”, which Israel said was located “under residential buildings in the heart of the Dahiyeh in Beirut”.
The IDF added, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world”.
The Israeli army did not verify the civilian casualties but it did blame the Hezbollah group for it as they had positioned their headquarters in residential areas.
A statement from the Hezbollah fighter group is still awaited as they have to confirm the news. Their chief had led the group for the past three decades.
Despite Israel claims elimination of Nasrallah, the news is not yet confirmed
A close source to the Hezbollah group was heard saying that Nasrallah has been missing since yesterday.
The Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah had been Israel’s target since the beginning of its war. In order to reach its target, Israel has been bombing Lebanon with a new wave of airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. It had initially done the same with a massive attack on a southern suburb called Dahiyeh.
Today, before dawn, more than 20 airstrikes were heard in the surroundings. People were forced to abandon their homes in the southern suburbs and thousands were gathered in squares, parks and sidewalks of Beirut’s downtown and coastal areas.
The first wave of attacks was noticed with thick clouds of smoke and the sky lighting up with fire in the thickness of the night across the city. Israel called it a “precise” attack.
With this, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed at least six people dead and more than 90 were injured.
The Israeli army confirmed that ten projectiles were fired towards Lebanon and entered the said region while “some” had been intercepted.
Israel also claimed to have killed more prominent figures of the Hezbollah group like Ali Karaki, who was the commander of the southern front.
In more than half a year of war with Lebanon, this was the most intense form of attack that Israel had launched towards Lebanon, for a continuous five hours.
Both sides have been involved in daily strikes of missiles and rocket fires with the escalation of conflict. The latest ones have increased the risk of an “all-out war” in the region, just like Gaza.
It has even raised an alert for Iran and the United States who have been strong allies of Lebanon and Israel respectively. Iran is in constant contact with Lebanon to think about their next step. The media reported that they have even made arrangements to transfer their country’s supreme leader to a safe zone.
Before the incoming news where Israel claims elimination of Hezbollah’s leader, the Israeli PM had announced at the UN General Assembly yesterday that it had all the right to continue the war against Lebanon if it did not back away.
If the death news of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah is confirmed, it is expected that there will be a serious shift in Hezbollah’s leadership structure.
