The Lebanese news media confirmed the launch of 80 airstrikes from Israel in only half an hour. The airstrikes were targeted towards south Lebenon’s Nabatieh district and Tyre areas.
It was the exact time when airstrikes in Bekaa were also reported with intense raids from Israel. The vicinity of Baalbek and the outer areas of Hermel were under attack from Israeli strikes.
A source from the Hezbollah fighters group stated that the airstrikes targeted Bekaa Valley entirely from east to west.
The Israeli army posted the incident on social media for verification in the form of a photo of the airstrikes. They confirmed that it was the military chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and an attack on the headquarters in Tel Aviv was made.
The Israeli army warned Bekaa Valley’s residents to evacuate and move to safer areas it had cautioned beforehand about the airstrikes in eastern Lebanon areas.
The schools in Lebanon have been closed for the past two days.
The Israeli army said, “We are preparing for a large-scale and targeted strike in Bekaa Valley” and that the residents should “distance themselves” for their safety and protection.
The military spokesperson from Israel, Rear Admiral Hagari was asked about the ground attacks from Israel’s side, on which he explained that Israel would do whatever it thinks needs to be done to assist the residents of northern Israel back to their homes. This would remain a priority during the war for the Israeli government.
With the recent pager detonations in Lebanon by Israel’s spy agency Mossad, violence has escalated significantly which is raising fears among the public for an all-out war.
Lebanon confirmed 100 deaths, just like Gaza…”another Gaza”?
On the other hand, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Micheál Martin said that the war should be avoided at all costs. He said he feared the intentions of Israel and that the severity of war between Hezbollah and Israel might worsen in the coming days.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly. Mr Martin said that the Lebanese situation is hard to discern these days. His reason for saying so was the country is currently without a proper government, no banking system and destroyed infrastructure. And with a war on its head, the system to manage things and protect its people is totally out of hands, said Mr Martin.
Also, Mr Martin assured that Irish troops are under constant supervision from his side. He is in daily contact with the Defence Forces’ leadership so that monitoring of the situation in Lebanon is not missed.
The troops as well as their leadership are safe in Ireland as the country is following the given mandate and mission from the United Nations. He added, “We’re keeping the situation under constant review and taking all of the force protection measures that are required”.
During the General Assembly meeting, the United Nations chief, Antonio Guterres said that Lebanon might become “another Gaza” as both sides are not agreeing upon a ceasefire.
Moreover, American President Joe Biden, whose country is one of the greatest allies of Israel, said that he was trying to keep his country’s diplomatic stance on the matters of ceasefire from both sides, but now, it seems impossible.
After Lebanon confirmed 100 deaths today, the total death rate in Lebanon has skyrocketed to a far greater scale which is becoming deadly day by day. Thousands of residents are forced to leave their homes with no hope left, like Gaza, to return back any sooner.
