The situation in Belfast has been particularly volatile, with violence erupting after an anti-migrant rally at City Hall. This weekend, more than 600 cops will be on patrol in addition to their usual duties. They will be dressed in riot gear and shields.

Belfast Businesses and Queen’s University Adjust Amid Major Security Operation and Rising Unrest

In response to the unrest, many Belfast businesses are closing early or allowing staff to work from home. Queen’s University has closed its campus as a precaution and has urged young people to avoid violence, emphasising that progress comes through cooperation rather than destruction.

The PSNI has also addressed misinformation circulating on social media about advisories to employers, clarifying that their official guidance is aimed at ensuring safety while respecting the right to peaceful protest.

Amid a fifth night of violent disorder, the PSNI has appealed to the public for help in identifying suspects involved in recent criminal activities, including arson and vandalism. Photos and video can be uploaded using the Major Incident Public Portal to receive assistance.
