Maldives Announces Comprehensive Ban on Israeli Citizens Entering the Country
Israeli nationals are no longer permitted entry into the Maldives due to popular uproar about the ongoing situation in Gaza. President Mohamed Muizzu’s office confirmed the decision, stating that laws will be amended to restrict Israeli passport holders. A special subcommittee will be established to manage the implementation of this ban, and a special envoy will be appointed to address Palestinian needs and lead a fundraising effort.

Israel’s Response to Maldives’ Ban on Israeli Citizens
Israel’s foreign ministry has responded by advising all of its citizens—including those who hold dual citizenship—to stay away from the Maldives. It also suggested that Israelis currently in the Maldives consider leaving due to potential challenges in providing consular support.
Government data shows that the number of Israeli tourists visiting the Maldives has declined; in the first four months of this year, there were 528 visitors, compared to 4,644 in the same period in 2023. Last year, over 11,000 Israelis visited the Maldives, making up 0.6% of total visitors.
