Man arrested for threatning Mary McDonald

A 20-year old man arrested for threatening to kill Mary McDonald and Drew Harris, the leader of Sinn Féin and the Garda Commissioner, respectively. The arrest, carried out by the Special Detective Unit, followed McDonald’s report of an online death threat on Wednesday.

Mary Lou McDonald shared on social media that she had received a menacing message in which the individual threatened to shoot her and also targeted a senior Garda member, identified as Commissioner Harris. The video showed the suspect, masked and making violent threats, promising to “shoot” McDonald and harm Harris. Additionally, the man threatened to petrol bomb Gardaí in Coolock.

The Cyber Crime Unit, Security, and Intelligence at Garda Headquarters worked together to enable the Gardaí to act quickly. The suspect was apprehended at his Rathfarnham home, and electronic devices were confiscated for use in the inquiry. His online activities are currently being examined.

Man Arrested for Threatening Mary Lou McDonald; Detained Under Criminal Justice Act for Threatening

The Criminal Justice Act’s Section 4 governs the man’s detention, which carries a maximum 24-hour limit. The ominous video was taken down from TikTok, but it may still be found on Facebook and X (previously Twitter), among other social networking sites. This arrest underscores the commitment of the Gardaí to address threats and ensure public safety.
