Cyber-Security Expert Loses €5,000 in Revolut Scam While Sleeping
In a startling revelation, a cyber-security expert, known for his vigilance against scam emails and texts, had over €5,000 stolen from his Revolut account while he was asleep. The expert, who insisted he never responds to suspicious communications, discovered the theft after waking up to find his phone undergoing a reset. Despite his security measures, €5,140 was taken, transferring to a UK Revolut account.

Initially, Revolut refused to refund the stolen money, claiming the customer’s app was compromised. However, after the intervention of the media, Revolut refunded the amount without providing an explanation.
Revolut Scam Highlights Customer Service Struggles in Fraud Cases
This incident is among several where Revolut customers have struggled to get a satisfactory response from the digital bank after falling victim to fraud. Some were advised to engage with Revolut’s financial crime division or contact the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman’s office.
Revolut, boasting 2.7 million customers in Ireland, maintains its systems are secure and that it takes fraud seriously, preventing over €550 million in potential fraud losses in 2023. The company emphasised that while banks should defend against fraud, consumers must remain vigilant against increasingly sophisticated criminals.
