Calls for De-escalation as US Media Reports Israeli Strikes in Iran Causing Explosions
Israel launched a military operation inside Iran, initiating a potentially hazardous escalation of the ongoing confrontation in the Middle East. The United States was informed of the planned strike in advance but did not endorse it. Iran responded to explosions close to a significant military airbase in Isfahan by turning on its air defence systems.

Iran’s Response Still Under Scrutiny amid Reports Israeli Strikes in Iran
Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi, Iran’s army commander-in-chief, stated that the explosions were due to anti-aircraft systems engaging a suspicious object. Iran reported no damage, and the media played down the attack’s scale.
Hours before the Israeli Strikes in Iran, Iran’s Foreign Minister warned that any further Israeli military action would result in an “immediate and maximum” response. Meanwhile, Israel did not provide a comment on the strike.
The strike follows tensions after Iran’s direct strike against Israel, which involved over 300 drones and cruise missiles, allegedly in response to a suspected Israeli strike in Damascus.
Israel’s Western allies have rallied in its defence while urging restraint. US President Joe Biden advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran’s largely unsuccessful strikes demonstrated Israel’s defensive capabilities and called for restraint in response.
