New peace discussions begin as medical personnel report 22 deaths in Rafah attack
Hamas and Israel are in the midst of new peace discussions as a Hamas delegation is set to visit Egypt to discuss Israel’s latest truce proposal for Gaza and hostages release. The discussions aim to end the seven-month-long conflict that began with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7th. This sparked Israel’s retaliatory offensive, which has caused significant devastation in Gaza.

Antony Blinken’s Push New Peace Discussions
Later this week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Israel and Jordan in order to continue his efforts at mediation. Blinken arrived in Saudi Arabia. The ongoing negotiations include discussions on achieving a permanent ceasefire, the free return of displaced people, and increased humanitarian aid into Gaza. While Hamas is open to talks, Israel may suspend its Rafah invasion if an agreement is reached.
The conflict has resulted in a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with UN and humanitarian officials warning that the region is on the brink of famine due to a lack of food aid. The latest air strikes in Rafah left at least 22 people dead, and the area continues to experience heavy bombardment.
Despite these challenges, efforts to secure the release of hostages and ceasefire continue, with international mediation playing a key role.
