New Regulator to Oversee Building Construction to Be Established
The Government is set to establish the Buildings Standards Regulatory Authority, a new regulator to oversee building construction. As a component of the government’s Housing for All plan, Minister of Housing Darragh O’Brien will request Cabinet approval for this important project. The regulator will wield inspection and enforcement powers, aiming to mitigate building failures and recurring defects. Additionally, it will monitor the marketing and use of construction products to boost public confidence in the industry.

To speed the formation of governance and management structures while the necessary core legislation is being written and implemented, an interim Building Standards Agency will be established. Recruiting technical personnel to assist local authorities, the new authority will also increase the capacity for inspections.
Cabinet to Consider New Regulator for Building Construction
The Cabinet will also consider a paper that suggests an eight-week nationwide deadline for finishing the conveyancing and probate procedures. This effort, led by Taoiseach Simon Harris, seeks to reduce housing costs and delays, making properties available more swiftly. The report advocates for digitisation, legal reforms, and a public awareness campaign to streamline these processes.
The government is also going to implement a six-year plan to enhance the educational performance of Roma and Traveler youngsters. Minister for Education Norma Foley will present this strategy, which aims to increase the number of these young people completing their education and obtaining a Leaving Certificate, addressing the educational disparities they face.
