Olympic Flag Lands in Los Angeles, Setting Stage for 2028 Olympic Games

The Olympic flag arrived in Los Angeles on Monday, marking an exciting milestone as the city prepares to host the Summer Games in 2028. The flag flew in aboard a Delta Airlines jet adorned with “LA28” and palm trees, and the atmosphere was electric as Tupac Shakur’s iconic “California Love” echoed across the tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport.

Mayor Karen Bass, donning a vibrant red Team USA tracksuit, proudly waved the Olympic flag while descending the airstairs. She was welcomed by California Governor Gavin Newsom and Olympic athletes, including diver Delaney Schnell and skateboarder Tate Carew. “I feel a tremendous pride and responsibility in being given the Olympic Flag,” Bass shared, emphasising the need to ramp up preparations for a successful Games.

Having held the Olympics twice before, in 1932 and 1984, Los Angeles will hold the games for a third time. Bass emphasised the persistent issues facing the city, such as homelessness, while also acknowledging the high standards set by Paris. However, she confidently remarked, “We do have Hollywood, so I expect a lot of magical opportunities.” With the Olympic flag now in hand, LA is poised for an unforgettable event.
