Saoírse’s remarkable strength and warmth inspired many and touched the hearts of people across Ireland and beyond. President Higgins expressed his deepest condolences to Saoírse’s family during this difficult time.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also honoured Saoírse, acknowledging her significant impact on the nation. He praised her courage and bravery, which resonated deeply with people across Ireland.
Saoírse’s battle against cancer began when she was just seven years old, facing a rare form of the disease. Despite her challenges, Saoírse’s spirit remained unyielding, capturing the nation’s attention when she appeared on the 2020 Late Late Toy Show
Viewers were deeply moved by her story of strength and perseverance, resulting in an overwhelming display of kindness and support. The inaugural Toy Show Appeal raised over €6 million in a matter of hours, with contributions continuing to pour in, totaling over €17.5 million to date.
Throughout her journey, Saoírse continued to inspire others with her quiet determination and unwavering spirit. She continued to be involved in her community despite her sickness, even going so far as to serve as Grand Marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Galway this past March.
Saoírse’s passing marks the end of a courageous battle, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her family has requested privacy during this time of mourning and has asked for donations in her memory to support Galway Hospice.
Former Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy also shared his condolences, describing Saoírse as an extraordinary young person who touched the lives of many. He emphasised her selflessness, kindness, and optimism, highlighting her profound impact on Ireland.
As preparations are made for Saoírse’s funeral, the nation mourns the loss of a brave and beautiful soul.
