Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed Ukraine for attempting to strike the Kursk nuclear plant in an assumed overnight attack. Russia also mentioned that it had already informed the UN nuclear safety watchdog about the status.

Acting Kursk Governor Alexei Smirnov told the Russian President, Mr Putin that the situation at the nuclear plant was “stable”. There are four Soviet RBMK-1000 graphite-moderated reactors at the plant.

In a meeting with the senior officials, Russian President stated that the enemy tried to attack the plant at night. During the discussion, the state of affairs at the Russian borders was also thoroughly examined.

He added, “The International Atomic Energy Agency has been informed, they promise to come themselves and send specialists to assess the situation”.

No further evidence or detail was given from Russian President’s side regarding the attack on the nuclear plant.

Putin and his officials plan for Russian safety

Director General of the International Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said on 9 August that maximum protection should be granted for the nuclear accident at the nuclear plant.

Since Ukraine has not commented yet on the attack, it is hard to discern the confirmation of the attempted strike.

The tension has aggravated since Ukraine’s invading attack on 6 August on Russia. This attack is proclaimed to be the biggest one by any foreign power since World War II. Russian borders saw invasion from all sides with thousands of troops coming on its western border. It was a great surprise for Russia.

The smashing through of Ukraine to the Russian border and Kursk territory was for the sake of coercing troops from the rest of the front. Russian forces still continued to make progress in eastern Ukraine during the past few days.

Since then, Russia has been trying its best to dislodge Ukrainian troops which has caused the raging fierceness of the war between the two countries. The Ukrainian troops have endeavoured to consolidate and expand their control over the territory to gain sovereignty.

In addition, Russia revealed yesterday that its forces have made advancements in Ukraine’s eastern region to push back their troops from the Kursk region. A Russian senior commander still predicted that enemy is again planning for a regrouping regarding a new attack.

A few days ago, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky said in a social media post, “I visited the border area of the Sumy region and held a meeting with Commander-in-Chief (Olerksandr) Syrsky and the head of the Sumy regional military administration”.

Mr Zelensky cited that they had made advancements to seize another settlement and “replenish the exchange fund”. It meant that the war prisoners would be used as leverage or exchange against Russia.

Ukraine is of the view that it wants to end the war on “fair terms” for which a buffer zone might be created in Russian territory. The war goals are offensive and wreak havoc on several lives.

On the contrary, Russian troops are making steady gains on eastern Donbas and not stopping at any cost to prevent Ukraine from stretching its control.

Recently, several drone attacks have been observed over Russian territory. The early hours of yesterday morning witnessed 11 drones being fired by Ukraine at Moscow at which Russia assured that they were shot down. Since the start of the conflict between the two powers, it was one of the biggest attacks.
