Sarah Lavin And Semi-Finals: Made For Each Other- Olympics Paris 2024 Updates
Ireland athlete, Sarah Lavin successfully marked her spot safe for semi-finals in 100m hurdles, Olympics 2024. She finished her race with a quick sweep in 12.73 seconds.
Her lightning start helped her stay in a composed position throughout her race, which was a clean display of her Limerick athletic talents. She was behind her first-place competitor, Danielle Williams, who is Jamaica’s two-time World Champion.

Williams was able to finish the race in just 12.59 seconds, hardly a 0.11 second lead from Sarah Lavin.
Moreover, third place was secured by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji who finished with 12.81 seconds.
It was 9:15 am when Sarah earned her second place in women’s 100 m hurdles and swished to the semi-finals straightaway.
Today, at 10:10 am, Brian Fay took part in the heats of the 5000 metres. Moreover, Donegal’s Mark English participated in the men’s 800m at later hours of the same morning. However, he lowered his own Irish record that he had made twice before.
Sarah Lavin ranks 17th in the world ratings of the Olympics, related to the Summer Olympics of the current year. It remained a surprise to her that she was able to finish before the world’s number six, Ditraji Kambundji, winner of the silver medal at the European Championships in June.
It was a pre-Olympics victory for Sarah Lavin when she broke the long-standing record at the World Athletics Championships in August 2023. She represented Ireland in Budapest and completed a time frame of just 12.62 seconds.
After being through to the semi-finals, Lavin was seen carrying the Irish flag across the ground with a broad smile on her face. She described her excitement as “the greatest honour”. She said, “It’s surreal, to be honest with you, the greatest honour I’ve been given, and I would even go so far to say probably any Olympic athlete ever could be given to carry the country’s flag”.
She believed that the feeling and the moment are not anything that anyone would prepare you for. She said that she is grateful for the opportunity and would use it with her best efforts to make her country’s flag shine.
Also, she disclosed that she had a dream of winning a national record for her country and making her family proud. She comically praised Derval, saying, “I’m sorry Derval but you did make me work bloody tough for it”.
Who is Sarah Lavin
Sarah Lavin has been an athlete, specifically a runner since her childhood days. When she was just 7 years old, she began running and fell in love with the spirit of sprinting. She has won various juvenile competitions and several 100m hurdles, breaking the previous national junior record. For her competitions, she travelled all over the globe, which she was always fond of.
On the other hand, Rhasidat Adeleke finished in fourth position in the world’s 400m final. The 20-years participated on Wednesday, 23 August and finished at 50.13 seconds just behind Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic.
After the race, she said in her interview, “At the end of the day I gave it all I had and you know that’s my goal. As long as I give it 100% I can’t complain”.
She said she is excited about the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics and would continue to work even harder for that. This remains her target and needs to achieve it with all her best efforts, she confessed.
In total, three semi-finals will take place on Friday, 9th August, the next milestone in the Olympics 2024 that people are looking forward to. The race is scheduled at 11:05 am.
