The defence solicitor did not ask for bail for the son charged with murder of his mom
Chris McCann, the defence solicitor did not ask the detective about the circumstances or deeper probe proceedings. He also did not seek bail for his client due to the lack of suitable address and evidence.
The defence solicitor said, “This case highlights a border issue in relation to accommodation being available for prisoners [after] custody”.
It later came to be known that Simpson, the son charged with murder of his mom, was released from jail seven days prior to the murder incident.
McCann was of the view that the authorities failed to arrange for alternative accommodation despite having months of time to do so. The results were “proven fruitless”, he said.
It is observed that Rachel Simpson remains the 23rd woman to have been killed in Northern Ireland in the past four years. In the previous four weeks, she is the third in the same region.
The charity organisation, Women’s Aid NI paid a tribute to the woman by saying that it sends its condolences to the loved ones and her family members. They assured that their thoughts were with the deceased and this time was the most difficult one for her dear ones.
The charity requested any witnesses or the locals connected with the incident to come forward and contact PSNI with evidence or footage.
Steven Keown, the District Judge, ordered for a remand for Simpson who would remain in custody till 14 October.
