Suspect arrested

The news for a suspect arrested for Trump second assassination attempt is confirmed. While Trump was playing golf on his course in West Palm Beach, Florida, there was an attempt on his life.

Donald Trump is safe and the Secret Service thwarted the suspect for now. The law enforcement official declared that they spotted the man a few yards away from the boundary line of the golf course where Trump was present yesterday afternoon.

Several Secret Service agents fired on the suspect who was hiding in the bushes and was aiming at the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump. When the suspect later attempted to flee in his car, he left an assault rifle, an AK-47 style and other attacking items at the scene.

The agents stopped the gunman after firing at him four rounds of ammunition at 1:30 pm (6:30 pm Irish time) yesterday. As soon as the fire opened at him, the gunman got scared, left his two backpacks at the scene and escaped in his Nissan car.

The sheriff talked to a witness who managed to take pictures of the gunman’s car and licence number plate before he left.

Trump second assassination attempt came hardly after two months when he was first shot at a campaign in Pennsylvania. The fire just passed his ear and injured his right ear. The suspect arrested at that time was killed there and then.

Both attempts are raising questions about the safety of the presidential candidates despite officials present at the scene. The polarised campaign is pointing fingers at the upcoming 5 November elections and keeping the candidates safe remains a hotly contested issue.

Donald Trump thanked US Secret Services officials by saying, “I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well-wishes- It was certainly an interesting day”. He thanked the Secret Service people for keeping him safe.

The level of protection given to the Presidential candidates is under scrutiny. The Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk posted on X, “They are going to keep trying to kill Trump. This is only the beginning. This stops when we win in November”.

Trump’s campaign has always demonstrated the themes of “unity” and “peace”. After the second assassination attempt, his campaign on social media showed messages like “My resolve is stronger after another attempt on my life” and “I will never surrender”.

Social media details of the suspect arrested

It has not been clear yet how the suspect knew Trump’s golf timings and venue on that day. However, the attempt raises challenges for the security staff and the protocols set for keeping high-eminent people of the country safe.

The suspect arrested for the attempt is confirmed to be named Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii who is 58 years old. No further comments are made by the police officials on verification of his whereabouts and his motive.

The police have probed deeper into the suspect’s social media accounts including Facebook, X, and LinkedIn. It has been noticed that his profiles were removed soon after the shooting incident occurred.

Interesting findings were made. Routh’s accounts, apparently those that displayed his name as it is, displayed his support for Ukraine and was completely against Russia. Also, some of his posts showed he had been supporting the recruitment of soldiers for Ukraine.

The police reached out to the gunman’s son, Adam to which he responded that he had no information about what happened. He said that he was in shock that his father would attempt such a horrific attempt.

Later, when the media tried to reach Adam at the store where he worked, they were told that Adam had gone home in an emergency.

Yesterday, Secret Service and Homeland Security staff reached the suspect’s previous home in Greensboro, North Carolina. The neighbour confirmed the identity of the suspect arrested as Ryan Routh.
