Taoiseach on First Official Trip to Northern Ireland

The Taoiseach, Simon Harris, departs on his first official trip to Northern Ireland. Taoiseach Simon Harris is expected to make his official arrival in Northern Ireland on Friday. He will meet with First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly in Belfast. An important step has been taken with this visit to promote cooperation between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Taoiseach’s First Official Trip Focuses on Political Dialogue and Community Outreach

During his trip, Harris is expected to discuss recent developments since the restoration of Northern Ireland’s political institutions in February. He will explore areas of mutual interest and potential opportunities for all-island cooperation.

The Taoiseach will be greeted at Parliament Buildings by the Speaker of the Assembly, Edwin Poots, and will also hold meetings with leaders from various political parties, including Alliance’s Naomi Long, UUP’s Doug Beattie, and SDLP’s Colum Eastwood. 

In order to showcase accomplishments in community development and healing, Harris will also visit The Duncairn Arts Center and have a working lunch with important business stakeholders. At Queen’s University Belfast, where he will talk about ongoing research programs across the island, such as those in cancer care, clean energy, and resilient food systems, he will wrap up his visit.
