Shane Lowry and Sarah Lavin to Become the Flag Bearers of Team Ireland at Olympic Opening Ceremony
The Irish flag will be carried by Shane Lowry and Sarah Lavin during the Olympic opening ceremony. Lowry, from Offaly, and Lavin, hailing from Limerick, will lead Team Ireland’s 133 athletes at the event, which starts at 6pm Irish time.

The event will take place in Paris beside the Seine River. Lowry, a major golf champion, is participating in his second Olympics, while Lavin, competing in the 100m hurdles, is set for her second Games as well.

Lavin expressed her excitement, saying, “It feels surreal and is the greatest honour I’ve ever received. I have so much gratitude for everyone who has believed in me and supported me. It’s an emotional moment, representing so many people, and I can’t wait to take part.”
