Trump Calls for Unity While Accepting Republican Presidential Nomination
Trump proclaimed, “I am running for president of the entire United States, not just half of it.” He urged the nation to heal its divisions, stressing, “We rise together. Or we fall apart.”
The gunman and one bystander were killed in the attempted assassination at a rally in western Pennsylvania. Trump praised the bravery of Secret Service agents who protected him and recounted the harrowing moment when the bullet narrowly missed him. “I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of almighty God,” he said.
Trump honoured Corey Comperatore, a fire chief who was killed in the attack, with a tribute on stage, raising over $6 million for Comperatore’s family and others affected. He also acknowledged his wife, Melania Trump, for her heartfelt letter calling for unity.
In a political climate marked by heated rhetoric, Trump called for lowering tensions and fostering a spirit of national solidarity. Although he expressed disapproval of the Biden administration, he emphasised that the MAGA movement is about the people of America, not about him. Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, joined him on stage as they aimed to energise the party for the upcoming election.
