Multinational Effort Facilitates Aid Deliveries to Gaza
This is an ongoing, multinational effort to deliver additional aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza via a maritime corridor that is entirely humanitarian in nature.
The US has been constructing the floating base for weeks to facilitate aid deliveries to Gaza amidst Israel’s military campaign against Hamas. The aid, initially screened in Cyprus, is transported by commercial ships to the pier. Smaller US military vessels then transfer the aid to a floating pier, where trucks deliver it to a marshalling yard on the beach.
The UN’s World Food Programme will handle the distribution of aid to the 2.2 million Palestinians in need. Aid delivery to Gaza has been slow since Israel’s recent control over the Rafah crossing.
