US suspends bomb shipment to Israel citing concerns about Rafah
According to a senior administration official, the United States briefly stopped a bomb shipment to Israel last week because of worries about the effects of a significant ground operation in Rafah, southern Gaza. The paused shipment included 1,800 2,000lb bombs and 1,700 500 lb bombs.

Bomb Shipment to Israel Suspended Citing Concerns over Rafah
US officials expressed apprehension over Israel’s approach in Rafah, emphasising the need to prioritise humanitarian considerations for civilians in the area. Rafah has been a critical entry point for aid and an exit for those attempting to flee since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began in October.
Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza during the night, and its forces, supported by tanks, seized control of the Rafah gate leading into Egypt. A single home reportedly lost seven members of their family to one of the attacks.
While the US continues discussions with Israel on addressing humanitarian needs in Rafah and changing operational methods, no final decision has been made regarding the paused bomb shipment.
Both Israel and Hamas delegations are resuming negotiations in Cairo through mediators, focusing on securing a ceasefire, releasing hostages, and addressing the ongoing conflict.
