While Searching For Kayaker, Body Recovered Off Waterford Coast
A body is found while searching for a kayaker off the Waterford coast. The kayaker had been missing since yesterday and the search mission began off the southeast coast on Monday, 12 August at 11:40 am.
After recovery, the body was taken to Dungarvan pier and the search stopped right away. However, it was known previously that the kayaker who was actually the target of the search was a man in his 60s.

The canoer set out from Ceann Heilbich near Dungarvan Pier in county Waterford. He left at 11:30 am yesterday.
The Coast Guard set an alarm off after realising that the kayaker hadn’t been back till 5:30 pm yesterday evening.
Rescue mission to look for kayaker
Immediately after this news, a rescue mission was initiated with the collaboration of the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre in Dublin and local lifeboat services. A rescue helicopter R117 was also asked for support.
LÉ Aoibhinn, a naval vessel, was also trying its best efforts to look for the lost man.
In addition, Coast Guard units from Bunmahon and Ardmore have been looking for the man since 5:30 in the morning. Tramore, Youghal and Dunmore East are the surrounding areas that have offered their help in the matter and joined the search task force since the alarm went off.
A spokesperson from the Department of Transport stated that wind and low-lying mist in these areas are creating challenges in the search and making it more difficult to look for the man in vast areas.
