SEANI Launches: A New Southeast Asian Network in Ireland

A new initiative is making moves within Irish society, “The Southeast Asian Network Ireland (SEANI)”. SEANI is a transformative initiative that’s weaving Southeast Asian heritage into the rich multicultural tapestry of modern Irish society.

SEANI is not just another cultural group. It’s a people-powered movement, run by passionate volunteers, committed to celebrating identity, fostering belonging, and building a more inclusive Ireland, one festival, one conversation, one community event at a time.

Whether you’re from the Philippines or Portlaoise, Myanmar or Mayo, SEANI is a space for you. A place where cultures collide in harmony, where ideas are exchanged, and where unity is built.

A New Chapter for Southeast Asians in Ireland

In a country where multiculturalism is no longer a trend but a way of life, SEANI is writing a new story, one rooted in shared values, community spirit, and cultural pride.

From Cambodia to Cavan, Indonesia to Cork, this powerful network is helping Southeast Asians in Ireland find their voice, and helping everyone else better understand the richness that voice brings.

“SEANI is about embracing where we come from, and respecting who we are becoming, together, in Ireland,” states SEANI Chair and Founder Hilda Arenas. 

Believing in a more inclusive and connected Ireland, SEANI has worked since its inception to be more than just a cultural organization. It is a living, breathing community where identity, belonging, and diversity are nurtured and actively celebrated.

What SEANI Stands For: Celebrate, Connect, Unite

At its core, SEANI is motivated by three core pillars:

1. Celebrate

SEANI is steadfast in celebrating the diversity and richness of Southeast Asian festivals, arts, traditions, heritage, customs, folklore, and languages. SEANI mediates such interactions through public celebrations, cultural workshops, and festivities.

People engage in a wide range of activities, including traditional and contemporary dances, modern and folk music, and various cuisines.

2. Connect

Fostering relationships among people regardless of whether they are Southeast Asian or Irish is one of the core objectives of SEANI. 

The organization organizes community events, panels, collaborative projects, and online storytelling initiatives, all of which are practical tools for fostering positive and strong relationships.

3. Unite

Unity among people and the shared values they hold is paramount to the strength of a nation. This is the belief that fosters connections between Southeast Asians and the Irish community, as well as other communities in Ireland. 

Together, SEANI is working to uphold. SEANI is promoting a more compassionate and more integrated country.

Meet the Founding Team

From the start, SEANI has been managed by community volunteers. It has been shaped by people who understand the value of cultural exchange, as well as the challenges of the immigrant journey. 

The founding members include:

• Selin Kim (Cambodia) – Vice Chair  
• Irene Murphy (Indonesia) – Secretary  
• Myo Min Aung (Myanmar) – Treasurer  

Together, the team strengthens the organization’s mission by adding lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and leadership to SEANI’s mission.
