At Cork University Hospital, a baby girl is undergoing treatment following an XL Bully dog attack in Kerry. The incident occurred near Lixnaw on Saturday evening, leaving the child, who is around a year old, with serious injuries. 

After being brought to a nearby vet, the involved dog was put to death. The circumstances surrounding the attack are being looked into by the Gardaí. 

Ireland Set to Ban XL Bully Dogs Following XL Bully Dog Attack in Kerry

This tragic incident comes just weeks before a government ban on XL bully dogs is set to take effect. Breeding, rehoming, reselling, and importing XL bullies will be illegal as of October 1. Starting on February 1st of the subsequent year, full ownership prohibitions will be in place unless a certificate of exemption is obtained.

The ban aligns Ireland with similar restrictions in Britain and Northern Ireland. The restriction comes in the wake of multiple dog attacks this year, including the XL bully dog attacks that resulted in Nicole Morey’s death in Limerick and Alejandro Mizsan’s serious injuries in Enniscorthy last November.
