XL Bully Ban Effective From Tuesday: The Sister Of Victim Said It Should Be “Stricter”

XL bully ban effective from Tuesday

The news of the XL bully ban effective from Tuesday is confirmed. The sister of victim, the woman who died from the XL bully dog attack, is happy about the ban that will be effective from Tuesday.

However, the sister said it should have been “stricter”. The statement seems justified after the death of Nicole Morey on 4 June 2024, which happened due to a vicious attack by her own XL bully dogs. She was killed on the spot.

It was determined by Minister of Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys to make XL bully ban effective from Tuesday, which would make it unlawful to own, breed, or sell XL bully dogs.

The Minister further clarifies that without a certificate of exemption, it will be unlawful to keep XL bully dogs as of February 1, 2025. The local authorities would confirm the certification.

Nicole Morey came back to her home on 4 June after enjoying her birthday celebrations in Fedamore, County Limerick. She was brutally attacked by the dogs that left her with no chance of survival.

Despite XL bully ban effective from Tuesday, the sister has concerns

In an interview, the sister of victim, Jolene spoke publicly for the first time. She said that she is happy with the establishment of such a law but there still are concerns over the legislation.

Jolene Morey said, “The law they’re bringing out, you have to have a licence, you have to have papers. But my sisters had all of them, and it still had to take death to bring in the law”.

She wasn’t satisfied with the predicted results of the law. She was of the view that there would not be much of a difference as people would still keep the dogs after having the certifications authorised by local authorities. There would be more attacks and more deaths. She declared that the pain would not be felt until it was someone from their own family.

The sister of victim revealed that her family grieved more when the video of the entire attack surfaced on the internet made shockwaves around the country. Their grieving was made even harder, she said.

The sister expressed her real thoughts about her sister. She wants everyone to remember her sister as a good person and not as someone who died from a dog attack. The brutality in the videos sends a different message to those who see it, just another victim.

Jolene said, “Nicole did so well in life. Nicole would do anything for anyone. She’s just a lovable person”.

Jolene remembered her as the “rock of the family” as Nicole was the eldest of six siblings in the Morey family. They were four brothers and two brothers and all of them looked up to Nicole.

Jolene also saw her as her mother as she cared for all of her siblings affectionately. She was even the cleverest.

Jolene mentioned that her mother and Nicole were more like sisters than mother and daughter. Nicole would take care of them just like their mother, Lisa Marie. She was always there for them when their mother was not.

Nicole had a great love for dogs. Previously, she had two pitbull dogs named Cali and Rico. Jolene stated that she doesn’t like dogs but her sister did. She took them for walks as if they were like a child to her.

The two dogs came to their house through Nicole’s relationship. Eventually, two more dogs came, one of them was Zeus, the XL bully dog.

The sister of victim recalled that she was always concerned about the dogs but she never thought the dogs would turn up on her sister like that. She had to trust those dogs.

Sadly, the tragedy shook them on 4 June that changed their lives forever.
