Israeli Strike on UN Shelter in Gaza

Local officials in the central Gazan refugee camp of Nuseirat report that at least 27 people have died as a result of an Israeli strike on UN sheletr. The school was sheltering hundreds of displaced individuals when an Israeli warplane reportedly fired two missiles at its top-floor classrooms.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the strike was directed for a Hamas facility that was hidden inside the school. This has been vehemently denied by the Hamas media office, which labelled the attack as a “horrific massacre” and accused Israel of fabricating justifications for its actions.

Social media users shared footage of the strike’s aftermath, which included demolished classrooms and bodies at a morgue covered in shrouds. “Enough war! We have been displaced dozens of times. They killed our children while they were sleeping,” cried a woman injured in the attack.

The incident has further escalated tensions, with ambulances and rescue teams rushing to the scene to transport the wounded and dead to nearby hospitals. The head of Hamas’ communications office, Ismail al-Thawabta, denounced the assault and disregarded Israel’s assertion that it was targeting terrorists. 

This tragic event is part of a broader escalation in Gaza, where over 36,580 people have been reported killed since the conflict intensified following the October 7 attack on southern Israel. The international community watches with growing concern as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
