Now, we may say that it’s not just planes that soar above Dublin and Cork airports; compassion and generosity do, too. Staff and passengers at the two major Irish hubs have joined forces to raise a staggering €315,000 for three deserving Irish Charities, proving that kindness can take flight even amidst the hustle and bustle of air travel.

A cheque for €105,000 was given to each of the three fortunate recipients: Ronald McDonald House, Cork Life Centre, and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. These Irish Charities were chosen by daa staff through their “Charities of the Year” program, demonstrating their commitment to giving back to their community. This impressive sum, achieved through a 12-month program of fundraising activities, will undoubtedly create a world of difference in the lives of many. This is not a one-time gesture of kindness. The daa charity program was started in 2007 and has raised an incredible €3.7 million for 33 different causes.

This year’s success adds another chapter to this remarkable legacy, showcasing the organisation’s dedication to social responsibility. And the good news doesn’t stop there – daa’s charitable journey continues in 2024, with three new charities – A Little Lifetime Foundation, Cliona’s Foundation, and Cork Penny Dinners – selected to receive their support.

Kenny Jacobs, CEO of daa, remarked, “This program is just another fantastic illustration of how our people are always willing to go above and beyond.” It demonstrates the decency and thoughtfulness that permeate this company as well as the kindness and giving that are fundamental to our people.

Representatives from each beneficiary charity expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the generous contributions.

The CEO of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Andy Heffernan, thanked everyone, saying that it’s amazing how much money was raised in only a single year. Additionally, by continuing to raise awareness and de-stigmatize dementia, this program has helped.

The emotion was also expressed by Craig Hayes, Deputy Director of Cork Life Centre: “We have been blown away by the benevolence shown by the daa charity program.” With the support of this donation, we will be able to enhance the educational journeys of young people and help the young people who come to the center with better skills.

Joe Kenny, CEO of Ronald McDonald House, highlighted the lasting impact of the donation: “daa’s contribution will help us make a huge difference to families in the future. This will enable us to care for families for many years to come.

Impact of this kind act on these Irish Charities

The impact of this generosity goes beyond mere numbers. The money will help people and families dealing with a range of difficulties by giving them vital support. From supporting those living with dementia to empowering young people and providing a haven for families facing difficult times, these donations will touch countless lives.

This initiative’s success is evidence of the value of group effort. From the tireless efforts of the daa staff to the kind contributions of passengers, this story is a heartwarming reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a significant impact.
