The Bohemian FC vs Palestine fixture, coinciding with the 76th anniversary of Nakba, goes beyond a simple football match. Bohs has expressed its goal to bring attention to the state of human rights in Palestine under occupation. Funds raised from the event will support humanitarian efforts in Palestine and cover the visiting team’s travel expenses.

This collaboration wasn’t born overnight. Bohs and the Palestine Football Association (PFA) have been fostering closer ties. A meeting between the PFA President, Lt. General Jibril Al-Rjoub, and Bohs officials discussed “collaboration opportunities,” including a potential memorandum of understanding to strengthen the bond between the Irish and Palestinian people.

The event holds importance beyond the boundaries of the playing field. Bohs previously supported Sport for Life Palestine through their 2023 away shirt sales, providing sports access to children in Tulkarem, West Bank.

Club President Matt Devaney expressed his gratitude to the Palestinian ambassador for facilitating the fixture and his hope for a “sold-out Dalymount Park,” demonstrating solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Ken Kiernan, the manager of Bohs women’s team, expressed a similar opinion and noted that it was a unique opportunity to “challenge ourselves against women from a different part of the world” during a significant event.

Daniel Lambert, Bohs’s chief operations officer, highlighted the unifying power of football and stated that “Dalymount Park’s May 15th event would convey a vital message of solidarity from Ireland to the Palestinian people.”

This historic friendly transcends the boundaries of sport, serving as a powerful symbol of solidarity and a platform to raise awareness for a crucial cause. With a sold-out Dalymount Park anticipated, May 15th promises a day of football, unity, and hope.
