The holiday season is winding down, and for those meticulous about cleanliness, the task of parting with their swiftly deteriorating fir trees has begun. The constant battle against pine needles and the occasional tinsel mishap with the family cat can be exhausting. Fortunately, Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council have come to the rescue with Dublin’s Christmas Tree Disposal services. In this guide, we’ll tell you about the various disposal locations, dates, and opening hours, so that you can dump your Christmas tree hassle-free.

Dublin’s Christmas Tree Disposal points planned by The City Council

From January 6 to January 21, 2024, Dublin City Council will be providing a free service for the disposal of Christmas trees at specific places. Wood chips and compost will be made from the gathered trees through recycling. Here are the specified locations: 

  • Oscar Traynor Road Bring Centre, Dublin 5 
  • Bring Center Grangegorman, Dublin 7
  • Bring Center Rathmines, Dublin 6
  • Bring Center Windmill Road, Dublin 12 

Timings

  • Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 
  • Sat: 10 a.m.–4 p.m. 
  • Sunday, (just January 7, 14, and 21): 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

You can also drop off your tree at the recycling centers in Ballymun, Dublin 11, and Ringsend, Dublin 4. 

Hours of Operation: 

  • Weekdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Friday and Thursday: 9 a.m.–6 p.m. 
  • Saturday: 9:00 am–4:00 pm 

For those closer to the city center, the North Strand Recycling Centre is an option: 

  • Monday–Friday: 10 am – 4 pm 
  • Saturday: 10 am – 1 pm 

Local Drop-Off Points:

Free drop-off points are available between 9 am and 5 pm from January 6th to January 21st, 2024. Ensure not to deposit trees outside these times to avoid litter offenses and potential fines. Drop-off points include: 

  • Good Counsel Liffey Gaels GAA Club, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 Sandymount Strand Car Park, Dublin 4 
  • Clontarf Promenade Car Park, Dublin 3 
  • Albert College Park, Whitehall, Dublin 9, 
  • and Mellowes Park Depot, Finglas, Dublin 11 

Collection Points for Fingal County Christmas Trees: 

From January 2 to January 16, 2024, Fingal County Council will be recycling Christmas trees at designated collection points. Only Christmas trees are accepted at these locations, with other items not accommodated. Here are the collection points: 

Balbriggan/Rush/Lusk: 

  • Bath Road Car Park, Balbriggan Balbriggan Road, 
  • Barnageeragh Car Park Rush 
  • Orlynn Park Entrance, Hayestown Open Space, Dublin Road Access, Lusk 

Swords/Donabate/Portrane:

  • Estuary Recycling Centre (normal opening hours only)
  • Rathingle Playing Fields Car Park
  • Swords Manor pitches
  • Donabate Community Centre Car Park (Formerly the square Donabate)
  • The Brook, Portrane
  • Santry Demesne Car Park

Malahide/Portmarnock/Baldoyle/Howth:

The Ballyogan Recycling Center during Christmas 2023 

  • Closed: from Sunday, December 24 to Tuesday, December 26 Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm 
  • Saturday, December 30th: 9.30 am – 5.30 pm Sunday, December 31st: 10.30 am – 5.30 pm 
  • Closed: New Year’s Day
