Titled “An Ode to the Masters,” the exhibition is a homage to the greats of art history, including Gustav Klimt, Johannes Vermeer, Henri Matisse, and Frida Kahlo. Rubinstein’s journey through the realms of art began in Paris in 1960, where he found inspiration in the works of these old masters.

However, Optical and Kinetic artists like Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, and Yaacov Agam deeply influenced his artistic trajectory.

Rubinstein’s fascination lies in the intricate interplay of geometric lines, shapes, and colours that create an illusion of movement and depth. His unique style is a testament to his experimentation with the limits of human perception. By layering and merging images, Rubinstein crafts artworks that morph and transform as viewers navigate their perspectives.

According to Rubinstein, “My distinct style has been influenced by their clever manipulation of the boundaries of human perception.” This innovation is evident in his works, where the painting’s appearance shifts depending on the viewer’s vantage point.

Whether observed from the right or the left, each angle offers a different facet of the artwork, with the frontal perspective harmonizing these diverse viewpoints into a cohesive whole.

James Gormley, owner of Gormleys Gallery, expressed his excitement about showcasing Rubinstein’s latest collection in Dublin. He remarked, “We are delighted to bring Patrick Rubinstein’s latest collection to Dublin. His work is incredibly intriguing because of his inventive style and command of colour and light.

“An Ode to the Masters” is poised to captivate art enthusiasts and fans alike. The exhibition opens its doors to the public on Thursday, March 21, at Gormleys Gallery, located on South Frederick Street, Dublin 2.

Art lovers are invited to immerse themselves in Rubinstein’s mesmerizing world of artistry and imagination until April 8.
