Gardai confirmed that they have charged a man following two incidents of arson at the site earlier this year, and he’s expected to appear in court soon. The individual was nabbed yesterday morning and has been charged with trespassing at the vacant house on Celbridge Road in Leixlip on a separate occasion.

This comes after the building was hit by fire-starters twice in January and February amid untrue claims it would become accommodation for those seeking international protection. Despite regular patrols by Gardai, the arsonists struck the property twice.

Far-Right Activist Faces Court After Arrest

A major investigation led by officers resulted in the arrest of a suspect yesterday morning on suspicion of arson. He’s now been slapped with trespassing charges and will face the music in court at a later date.

Last night, a Garda spokeswoman provided an update: “Officers continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding two incidents of criminal damage by fire that occurred in Leixlip, Co Kildare in the early hours of Tuesday, January 30 and Wednesday, February 7.

“A man, who is in his 40s, was arrested yesterday in connection with this investigation. He has been released from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The man has been charged with offences related to this investigation and is due to appear in Court at a later date.”

The charges against the far-right activist come after widespread rumours and misinformation online that falsely claimed the disused site was designated for housing international protection applicants.
