Police Arrests a 25 Year Man in Down Murder Investigation

Down Murder Investigation Underway Following Tragic Incident in the coastal town of Kilkeel!

A tragic incident in Co Down has prompted a murder investigation after the discovery of a deceased man and a woman with serious injuries. The man, aged in his 60s, was found unconscious at a property in the Newcastle Road area of Kilkeel, with the woman, also in her 60s, suffering from severe head injuries.

Police responded to a concern for safety report before 1pm on Thursday, finding the man deceased at the scene while providing medical assistance to the injured woman. She has since been hospitalised and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Arrest Made in Co Down Murder Investigation

A 25-year-old man has been placed under custody on charges of attempted and actual murder. He is still being held and helping the police with their investigations. The police have stated unequivocally that they believe guns have nothing to do with the incident. 

Chief Inspector Lynne Corbett expressed condolences to the affected family and reassured the community that a thorough investigation is underway. Authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward and have asked the public to avoid speculating. 

The incident has deeply shaken the Kilkeel community, known for its tight-knit bonds. Leaders in the local political community and council have expressed astonishment and offered prayers for the affected.

With cordons in place, police forensic officers have been investigating the scene. While inquiries continue, detectives have stated that a firearm was not involved in causing the injuries.
