Mount Congreve Transforming into Ireland’s Premier Eco-Destination

Mount Congreve

One of Ireland’s most renowned gardens, Mount Congreve, is set to become a top eco-destination by adding a new hotel and eco-cabins.

The Forest Hotel, scheduled to open in late spring, will offer luxury accommodations within the 70-acre gardens. Five eco-cabins will be available for families, each featuring modern interiors and unique curved roofs that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

The project also includes the renovation of existing lodges and apartments, all receiving the same meticulous care as the main Gate Lodge, Damson, which has been a popular attraction since its opening in early 2023. The remaining lodges – Rowan, Oak, and Acorn – will maintain an adult-only atmosphere.

Mount Congreve’s transformation extends beyond accommodation. The €7 million refurbishment, recently recognised by the New York Times as a travel tip for 2024, has seen improvements like a new visitor centre, multiple walking routes, and an enhanced audio-visual system highlighting the gardens’ rich history.

The project received praise from Tourism Minister Catherine Martin, who expressed that it will enable the southeast region to attract many new visitors. With the Waterford Greenway, a 48 km cycling and walking trail alongside the gardens, Mount Congreve is poised to become a central hub for sustainable tourism in the region.
