Russia's Overnight Missile Attacks in Ukraine

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia’s overnight missile attacks targeted Kyiv and the surrounding territories with many waves of missiles and drones throughout the night.

The assault comes just a day after Russia’s largest strike of the war. In Kryvyi Rih, a hotel was destroyed, killing two people. Meanwhile, in Zaporizhzhia, two more died in drone attacks. 

Ukraine’s air defence systems were activated several times overnight. Missiles and drones aimed at Kyiv kept the city on high alert. Witnesses in Kyiv reported at least three rounds of explosions. The city remained tense throughout the night. 

The previous day, Russia fired around 200 missiles and drones. This catastrophe resulted in the deaths of at least seven persons and significant damage to the electricity infrastructure. The scale of the latest attacks is still being assessed.

Ukraine’s air force reported multiple drone launches and the take-off of Russian strategic bombers. The Kremlin has not commented on these attacks. Russia keeps denying that it targeted civilians during the conflict.

The Russian defence ministry claimed their strikes hit all intended targets. Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure remains a key focus. For the majority of the night, air raid alarms were in effect for Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv, and nearby areas. 

The attacks began around 9 PM Irish time on Monday. In Kryvyi Rih, officials fear two civilians might still be trapped under the hotel rubble. Five more persons were hurt in the attack. In Kryvyi Rih, there were eight cars, four high-rise buildings, and six stores damaged. The devastation was widespread.

In Zaporizhzhia, the toll was equally tragic. Two persons lost their lives and four more were injured during the course of the night. The attacks involved Iranian-made Shahed drones. Ukraine accuses Russia of using these kamikaze drones in its strikes.
