Nearly 19,000 Applicants from Previous Years Await CAO Offers

Nearly 19,000 have Leaving Certificate results from previous years, some dating back to 1985. Around 60,000 applicants are expected to receive an offer today. More than half of these at Level 8 will likely get their preferred course. One of the top three options will be presented to four out of five.

In recent years, this pattern has been steady. Applicants will receive notifications by email and text if they opted in. Level 8 notifications will arrive first.

The CAO said messages should start arriving around 1.30pm. Students can accept offers until Tuesday, September 3, at 3 p.m. Additional places have been added in health sciences to address staffing shortages. Among these are 55 more places at Galway University.

The University of Limerick also added 20 places in its Occupational Therapy program. Forty extra medical positions are being added by the Department of Further and Higher Education.

Over 5,300 applicants have already received offers in an earlier round. Some applicants may receive two offers today but can only accept one. For those without offers today, more rounds will follow. As places are declined, they will be re-offered in the coming weeks.
