Dublin was identified as the leading city with the most significant number of autonomous businesses. This included 174 barber shops, 177 beauty salons, and 154 takeaways. However, on average, all companies in the city received a moderate review score of 5.4.
In contrast, Cork excelled in average review scores, with businesses earning high marks. The average rating for beauty salons was 4.8 out of 5 stars, making them the most highly rated. Barber shops obtained an average rating of 4.68 out of 5 stars, while bakeries were at an average of 4.59 out of 5 stars. Cork’s overall score of 9.5 reflects the quality and satisfaction of its independent businesses.
Waterford’s total number of independent businesses may have been lower, with a score of only 1.25; however, it made up for it with exceptional quality. The city boasted the highest average review score at 6.95, highlighting the extraordinary satisfaction level among consumers.
The report highlighted a similar trend in Galway and Limerick, where consumer satisfaction remained high despite hosting fewer independent businesses.
Armagh, however, failed to make it into the top five rankings, with limited numbers of independent businesses. Despite this, the report suggested that Armagh could be an attractive location for aspiring entrepreneurs due to its potential for little competition.
