He sent a message on Telegram saying, “A lot of damage in the energy sector” has been done. Several cities experienced power outages throughout Ukraine.

Zelensky considered it one of the largest attacks where Russia used more than 100 missiles and around 100 drones for the said purpose in the a total wartime of two and a half years.

Zelensky requested his allies to come forward and supply air defence systems and missiles for Ukraine’s support. He was of the view that Ukraine’s partners should make a joint collaboration for shooting down Russian drones and missiles.

The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command indicated that Polish and allied aircraft were made ready immediately after Russian attacks that also targeted Ukraine’s western areas along with the Polish border.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal also corroborated Zelensky’s statements that more than half of the Ukrainian region is destroyed by Russian attacks. He added, “Today 15 regions were affected by a massive Russian attack. The enemy used various types of weapons: drones, cruise missiles and Kinzhals (supersonic missiles). There are wounded and dead”.

Russia attested Zelensky’s blame for attacks

On the other hand, Russia admitted the attacks and confirmed that it used high-precision weapons. Russia verified that the purpose of its attack was to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure including its military-industrial complex and the Interfax news agency.

The central Kyiv started to explode with the sounds of attacks in the early morning rush hours. 11 TU-95 strategic bombers that Russia had dispatched via air routes were exposed by the Ukrainian Air Force. The launch of missiles was also confirmed at the same time.

Ukrainian people were forced to take shelter in underground metro stations when the attack sirens went out.

The regional authorities of Ukraine confirmed that four people were killed. The deaths were reported in western Lutsk, and southern Zaporizhzhia regions along with eastern Dnipro.

The deafening sounds of defence-engaging targets were heard outside the Ukrainian capital. Also, the officials mentioned that attacks created damage, resulting in a blocked apartment.

For a long time, Ukrainians have been anticipating a massive Russian missile attack. Such predictions were made after Ukraine targeted their border region of Kursk, which was one of the major foreign attacks on Russia after World War II.

The US embassy also generated a high-risk warning of Russian attack on Ukrainian Independence Day, which was on Saturday.

Mr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak said in a message on Telegram, “The desire to destroy our energy will cost the Russians dearly: their infrastructure”. Russia has repeatedly tried to ruin Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, trying to force its people to live in freezing cold weather and stay in darkness for days.

Russia deems it a powerful weapon of war. Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko said that Ukraine’s energy sector is in danger and the intensity of damage is still being investigated after Monday’s attack.

Earlier, Russia launched another drone attack that resulted in no casualties, Ukraine’s military staff declared.

Ten Russian drones were destroyed in the same attack that were trying to approach Kyiv around 2:30 am local time. The information was disclosed in a Telegram message by the head of Kyiv’s military administration, Serhiy Popko.

No response was recorded from Russia at that time. Russia and Ukraine both have been denying any loss of human lives from the common public despite both sides carrying out attacks on each other. They are primarily focused on destroying each other’s infrastructure only, they both claimed.
